Life Balance: Summer Fun from Labor Day

Relax and Recharge

iStock_000009006552XSmall[1]I hope you enjoyed a break this summer.

Fellow entrepreneurs, I can speak from experience when I say, it’s so important to recharge your battery.

Each year, I take a family vacation, a week with no…well little…technology. It slows down the pace, opens the mind.

Be sure to really relax and recharge from time to time. It’s amazing how a real break can rejuvenate your thinking. Take a balance break from time to time.

How do you find life balance?

I whole-heartedly agree with the suggestion to take a break. The paradox is that when I get away from my business, relax a bit and turn off the mental chatter about what I should be doing, the most wonderful, creative, productive ideas pop up.

I know some people are more creative in a group and bouncing ideas off of others, but for me, down time with a note pad brings out the best thinking.

I agree that taking a break and recharging is SO important. Every day I want to start from a relaxed perspective so I take a little time in the morning before beginning to find my mindset for the day. Then I work productively and increasingly frantically until lunch when I get out of the office to take a walk. Those 2 daily practices bring work into balance for me.

Hi, Sharon: good for you taking daily breaks. Earlier in life I would take lunch at my desk and wonder why I was exhausted needing candy and coffee at 3. Took some time, but I figured it out. A little walk does more good than added caffeine. A little meditation at days beginning works, also. Daily breaks are fun and productive, but I’ll, also, answer Marti regarding vacation breaks.

Hi, Marti: If you were following me on the blog last year, you may recall that my 7 family members (all type A personalities) decided that one day on our vacation should be electronic free — no TV, cell phones, radios, laptops, etc. Last year we made it pretty much, but everyone was up pretty early the morning after. This year we
tried it again, but I have a feeling there was some cheating going on as people disappeared for longer than normal periods. Reminds me of my Jack Russell Terrier who has a favorite toy she carries constantly – our virtual lives are very addictive.
Thanks for your comment – note pads are a good idea.

Hi, Amanda: it is extremely difficult to live without technology. My family proves it to be almost impossible even in a beautiful woods surrounding. Guess the days of Henry David Thoreau are over.
Can only imagine what he would say to us technology addicts.
